 INTRODUCTION OF THE LEGEND :        

• His full name was Charles Spencer Charlie.      
• He was born on April 16,1889, in London, England.
• His father died when he was just 10, and his mother was seriously ill.
• He started his career with Vaudeville as a comedian. Instead, he was also a composer, filmmaker.
• The show Vaudeville became a hit, and he got an offer to be featured as a player in the company named Fred Karno Repertoire Company at 19.   
•              He attracted the US audience and became famous in the US.
• His mutual was expired in 1917, and then he thought to be an independent producer.
• He was the first filmmaker of that time who had the guts to expose the political intolerance that seized the US during the Cold War.
• His last produced film was 'A Countess from Hong Kong.' 
• The director, producer, and screenwriter was Charlie Chaplin. This was his previously made movie which was colored.
  

As we have read, his childhood was really tough as he could not get enough of his parents and suffered a lot.

• Chaplin's beliefs and ideas had leaned towards the LEFT, i.e., Communism.
• Many saw Communism as against the Nazis.
• He made some movies that evince his beliefs and ideologies, which were more on the communist side.

1. THE GREAT DICTATOR (1952) - This was about the rulers doing stupid things to get full power.
   
   
   
2. MONSIEUR VERDOUX (1947) - This was his last film in America. It was about the destructive side of humans after the post-war. But the film didn't do well as the people couldn't understand the dark humor.
   
   
   
3. LIMELIGHT (1952) - This was about the price of fame and stardom in the world of entertainment.
   
   
   

• He was living in the US for 40 years. They prevented him from working in Hollywood by blacklisting him by the FBI in 1948.
• He told the committee, "I do not want to create any revolution. All I want to create is a few more films. I might amuse people. I hope so."
• He went on a holiday with his family to Britain. A notice came to him on 19 Sept that he would get arrested if he would not return to the US.
• He announced that " I would not go back there even if Jesus Christ were the president."
• He got settled in Switzerland with his family and then never returned.

HIS DEAD BODY WENT MISSING :

• Charlie died on Christmas 1977 in Switzerland after a stroke in his sleep at 88.
• They buried him in Cimetiere de Corsier-sur-Vevey in Switzerland.

• After 3 months, a call came to his wife from the Swiss police that the grave of Charlie Chaplin had gone missing.

  

  
   
• After some time, she and her lawyer received 27 phone calls claiming that they had the grave of CHARLIE CHAPLIN and demanded a ransom of $600,000.
• Then the police started investigating this case and threw a fake meeting to catch the thieves, but the thieves didn't show up.
• Then the police changed their plan and tapped the phone of Charlie's wife, and a team of police was inspecting the phone booths.
• After some time, the police caught the grave thieves. They were two auto mechanics that did this act of brutality for the fame and the money.
• They were punished for disturbing the peace of the grave and for the attempted extortion.
• They sentenced the mastermind Wardas for 4 years, and Ganev got an 18-month suspended sentence.
• They said in their defense that a similar case that happened in Italy inspired them.
• Charlie's grave was again buried under concrete in his original place to protect the tomb from any further mishappening.
